The Story of the Squirrel
One week a Sunday School teacher was using squirrels for an object lesson for his fourth grade boys.…
“I’m going to describe something, and I want you to raise your hand when you know what it is.” The boys nodded eagerly.
“This thing lives in trees … and eats nuts….”
No hands went up.
“And it is gray … and has a long bushy tail….”
The boys were looking at each other nervously, but still no hands raised.
“It jumps from branch to branch … and chatters and flips its tail when it’s excited….”
Finally one boy tentatively raised his hand. The teacher quickly called on him.
“Well,” said the boy, “It sure sounds a lot like a squirrel … but the right answer must be Jesus!”
The ultimate answer is always Jesus (except, perhaps for squirrel questions). And Dr. Tim Keller, no matter how far afield he may go in the course of a given message, always comes back to the Squirrel.
So MMG has made the Squirrel its official mascot.
The answer is Jesus.
